Actually Ruby plugin is using this gem. What kind of problem do you have with it?

Well, it seems that debugging works now. I'm not able to reproduce the problem today. Trying to debug before gave me a usage message indicating that RubyMine or a couple other IDEs should be used, none of which were IntelliJ IDEA. I'm not sure what was wrong with my machine last week, but perhaps the usage message should at least be updated?
