One obvious issue is that if the program first checks the available disk space this would have to be faked in order to succeed.

Thank you for considering this. Tzur (the original developer) mentioned once that a very old version of Sandboxie behaved like I describe, until he decided it was more correct to return the free space of the target partition. I need to read the code, but I'm guessing it already hooks into GetDiskFreeSpaceA somewhere.
