Actually, the quickest workaround for this is probably just to rotate the assets 90 degrees (in the same direction as your screen(s)). If you leave X11 without making any changes, that should do the trick.

I would be interested in taking a look at this down the road, but that should work as a reasonable workaround.

I am sorry, I am new to this whole thing. Can you describe in further detail? I am not sure I understand what you are telling me to do. Thanks.

PS what I have currently done is replaced startx with another file and added screen_rotate=1 to the config file.

I am sorry, I understand what you mean(pictures, etc)

The problem is still there, the issue is not with the rotate its just that there is big borders on the top and bottom of the screen. I have to manually drag them to the top and bottom. Thanks, Adam

Yes, that won't work. You have to revert to the default orientation.

Yes, only videos and images. Websites won't work with this trick.

Right. Disable the screen orientation changes you made and simply rotate the images/videos. You can't change X11's screen orientation, that will break screenly.

So, right off hand you cant think of a workaround to use a website can you?

from anthias.

vpetersson avatar vpetersson commented on July 18, 2024

No, not unless you can figure out a way to render the website 90 rotated.

Ok, thanks for your help Victor and please let me know if you do come up with something.

I pushed an update today that addresses this. Look at FAQ-entry Can I use Screenly with a rotated screen?. It's pretty much untested, but should work in theory.

Hey Victor thanks, I found the solution. I used the new build, changed the resolution. Edited config.txt and added display_rotate=1 and had to replace start.elf with this https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3669512/temp/start_rot.elf . This may not be the best way of doing this but I am no linux guru like yourself so it was the best I could come up with. Thanks, Adam

Just out of curiosity, where did you get that image (start.elf)? Cliford reported in the forum that it worked for him w/out any modifications.

Hi, this is probably something simple. Do you know if it is possible to zoon in on the browser for screenly? Thanks again for your help

vpetersson avatar vpetersson commented on July 18, 2024

That's actually neither simple nor elegant. That feels like an awkward solution to the problem. It's better to resolve the issue on the core of the problem (ie the website).

I agree with you, just wondered if it was something quick and simple that could be done for testing purposes.

Yeah, I can't think of any quick-fix for this problem. There may be one, but I'm not sure it's worth spending too much time investigating.
