I spent a few hours trying to make it work yesterday, and I'm stumped.

The only information from the device is error 118, which seems to be a certificate error. But it's no more specific than that.

All I've been able to determine is that the distributor certs from Samsung have expired recently (variously either October 25 or 27, 2022). I found this by using OpenSSL to read them.

Using the author cert as a distributor cert doesn't work. That could be because my author cert is signed by a different root than the distributor cert, but it could also be that the roots have expired as well. I couldn't determine that for sure.
