That does not sound like a bug to me. According to the API documentation for orders, you can fetch a maximum of 250 orders at a time and 50 is default which explains why you are only getting 50 orders. So if you have many orders, you need to make some kind of loop and use the page parameter. Something like this:

page = 1
products = shopify.Product.find(status='any', page=page)
while len(products) > 0:
    page += 1
    products = shopify.Product.find(status='any', page=page)

Also, remember the API call limit is 500 calls in 5 minutes.
