As I see, it works if a declare a template in the directive.

@cavarzan - Is this still an issue? From what I see, its the default behavior of Angular & here is how we are reading the directive's embedded template html - https://github.com/siddii/angular-timer/blob/master/app/js/timer.js#L18
Try adding console.log & see if the html is passed on to the directive.

@siddii Yes, it is passed to the directive, but all bind doesn't occur.
It's strange to work on older versions, maybe it's something new in angular's $compile function. I fix that using a templateUrl in the directive.
I will close the issue because it's an particular angular behavior.
