Hi,
It's hard to say as it depends on epic's release schedule, but we still plan on supporting version1 of the plugin even after v2 is released.
We know that some of you have existing projects that still rely on v1, and are two advanced to easily make the switch from v1 to v2. It's likely that we'll first deprecate v1, and will retire it on the next release after version2's.
We'll try our best to make the transition from v1 to v2 as smooth as possible despite the lack of backward compatibility between the two plugins, whether that's through guides, or tools that could be used to clean/backup v1 assets, that v2 could then possibly reimport/recreate.

What's the targeted UE4 version for v2 release? That might give us a good idea on if we need to migrate or not.

We don't target UE4 versions, but Houdini versions... currently we plan to release v2 for this year's upcoming release (Q4 this year).
Looking at the current pace of development of UE, this will likely be UE4.26 + 4.25.
Those are the two versions that will likely ship with Houdini, but I'll try my best to port v2 to earlier versions of UE as well.
