Some commands fail about grunt-shell

I have those options enabled; see https://github.com/mathiasbynens/utf8.js/blob/master/Gruntfile.js. You can change the command in the Gruntfile to '[ ! -f data.json ] && python generate-test-data.py' to reproduce the issue.

Am I doing something wrong?

Right, so the difference is that [ ! -f data.json ] && python generate-test-data.py returns the error code 1, which makes the task fail, while if [ ! -f data.json ]; then python generate-test-data.py; fi does not.

If you want the first one to work, either set failOnError: false on that target or [ ! -f data.json ] && python generate-test-data.py || true
