Don't know if it's a practical reason, but I prefer filenames without spaces (so I'd use '-x'
/ '_x'
for example). It's a lot easier to navigate through files that are separated with hyphens/underscores rather than spaces ('\ '
is kind of annoying).
As for any other delimiter, I don't think there's any real justification, (x)
is probably the cleanest anyways.

I think a space makes it clear that the number is not part of the original filename.

Why? Any practical reason to want something different other than a subjective preference? I'm following how Chrome works with the (1)
postfix.

I appreciate the points against, but there are toolchains that aren't designed to handle or at least discourage the use of spaces, such as a current project on which I'm working. So I would love to be able to use a custom delimiter. If you would be open to releasing such a change after merging a pull request, I might decide to take up the work.
