I tried to make the change in the JISON source to introduce escaping only for the two characters: \[ and \] (not for the backslash itself) as change 1488810 in the escape-brackets branch. Supporting backslash by \\ might be seen as a breaking change, because it is currently supported by a single \. I did it in a clumsy way, because I am not familiar with the tool.

What do you think about the escaping in general? Would you accept a PR or would you like a better coding? Thanks!

This is on the roadmap, see #5

I would prefer an implementation that allows escaping of all nomnoml control characters. I would welcome pull requests that solve this, my JISON is a bit rusty.

@prantlf : I ended up using you proposed approach. If you would like to help me test it before deployment the new release is available here: http://www.nomnoml.com/releasecandidate/

It's working well, thanks! I'm sorry for the late reply.

I still need to use my nomnoml#combined fork in nomnoml-cli, because it includes #31 as a workaround for #29.
