If you're in a PaaS type situation (we're on platform.sh) then I can recommend going to very latest node runtime supported, and then it starts working again :)

Some Slack services had certificate renewals deployed this morning. Updating CA certs fixed this issue for me

Hey all, sorry to hear that you're experiencing connection issues! 😓

@kebshell is correct that today there was an SSL cert change and it's impact some developers.

Here is a link to the incident's status: Some users may experience issues accessing api.slack.com.

It's good to hear that a short-term workaround is to disable TLS/SSL, but I agree that it's not a long-term solution.

If you're still affected, I'd recommend to first reach out to Slack Support because it's good to have an official record of those impacted. They'll also be one of the first to know when the issue is resolved and to recommend a solution for others:

  • Enter the topic as "Slack API: RTM Connection Failing" (or something along those lines)

I believe, if you're able to update your CA certs, then you should be able to get Slack's updated SSL certificates. However, if you're using Heroku or another platform-as-a-service then this may not be in your control. I'll keep an eye on this as well and try to share any knowledge that I see!
