I feel this should be clearly indicated in each Nix package, similarly to how solaar indicated there is a related option (https://search.nixos.org/packages?channel=22.11&show=solaar&from=0&size=50&sort=relevance&type=packages&query=solaar), the packages which have to be enabled as an option rather than a package like docker, virtualbox, partition-manager, touchegg, etc. should have it clearly stated in the long description.
For reference, this is done in longDescription (eg. https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/pkgs/applications/misc/solaar/default.nix)
from nix-software-center.
