Valid point. I don't see any reason why it should read a tree object during the LookupCommit()
as you say. I won't be able to fix it in the next 14 days, but after that I will (unless someone comes up with a pull request...).

I guess the 14 days are now over... You are right, that the tree object is not necessary in LookupCommit()
, but there are applications out there that use the tree object. So it is a design flaw that I can't fix (without breaking existing code).
