I wasn't aware of any existing deep merging semantics... can you elaborate? Does OT support merging of service.pipelines.metrics.receivers contents (e.g. if defined in two files)?

Basically, dictionaries are merged recursively, and any other values are replaced. So we can't merge lists unfortunately, if we want to make this work with these semantics, our pipelines need to be independent and defined in one place.
