Tested again. It does not.

I'm not sure whether I understand what you tested. Tesseract4java uses tesseract to create it's own in-memory box-file when opening the Box Editor. You can save a box file (to be reused by other programs) with File → Save Box File. It is then saved to the directory "tesseract-project/preprocessed" for easier use with other box editors.

I have not been able to run the program in a consistent manner - possibly there are conflicts because of using Jtessboxeditor as well as UB Manneheim's Tesseract-OCR binaries on the same PC.

Program has option to OPEN box file, that implies it needs a pre-existing box file. I was initially trying to open box file by selecting the relevant image file.

err1

Currently, when I try to do that I am geeting the error that there is no box file, even though it exists in the same directory where the selected image is.

err2

If I select All Files, and then choose a box file from the file list, there is no change - the box file does not open.

In previous testing, I was able to open box files, however right now I am unable to do so.

In previous testing, I may have tried save box file option, leading to box files that I found later via file explorer - that' why I thought that program was creating box file.

Qn: You say " Tesseract4java uses tesseract to create it's own in-memory box-file when opening the Box Editor."

How does it create the in-memory box-file, which language traineddata does it use? Is this box file displayed to the user, if so, where?

I'll try to make this clearer in version 0.2
