Such a change would be in line with Marc Blank's ZIL manual (I don't remember who pointed me to it, but the name of the file was ZILCourse.pdf), which states that:

There are cases in which a room description changes during the course of the game and the writer wants to call attention to that change. The clever game writer, having read this awe-inspiring document with an almost fanatical dedication, will, at the time the description changes, clear the TOUCHBIT of the ROOM!

(It then goes on to poke fun at Steve Meretzky for not reading the manual.)
