This is by design.

EngineFactory requires absolute path to the views root folder as it knows nothing about the environment where it is executing. But with MVC integration package you should provide relative path.

Here is a piece of code from RazorLight

IServiceProvider serviceProvider = services.BuildServiceProvider();
IHostingEnvironment env = serviceProvider.GetService<IHostingEnvironment>();
string absoluteRootPath = System.IO.Path.Combine(env.ContentRootPath, root);

As you see, the path is combined with the ContentRootPath which is taken from IHostingEnvorinment.
So basically you should register RazorLight services this way:

services.AddRazorLight("/Views");

Ok passing a relative path "/wwwroot" seems to work, but I'm not certain that in all scenarios

env.ContentRootPath + '/wwwroot' will be the same as env.WebRootPath - I won't know until we deploy to Azure.

Passing the env.WebRootPath (absolute filesystem path) works fine on windows for some reason.

I guess it's somehow related with a System.IO.Path.Combine implementation on different platforms.
