Maybe it would make sense to add a manual installation-section to the readme?
For me it wasn't clear that I have to set it up over the integrations-page after adding it to custom_components.

oh, all integrations work like this. some have config setup, some UI setup and some both. you dont have to worry about hacs at all, tho, I recommend it since its convenient to be informed about updates and it cuts out all the hassle :)
