Do you do anything to prevent parsing of the preamble? Does it maybe live in a separate file? Then include it with \LTinput, see here.

By default, YaLafi should interpret your definition and replace any occurrence of \figref{some-label} with Fig. 0. In case the line is not parsed by YaLafi and the command \figref is unknown, \figref{some-label} would be replaced by some-label because unknown commands are replaced with their arguments. You can run YaLafi with option --list-unknown to see whether \figref is properly parsed or not.
