I do not understand the "light and does not work out of the box" part. Like many other cookbooks we have, it is not intended to be usable for everybody. It also is flexible enough to survive rvm website outages like the SSL certificate problem we had yesterday and supports named Ruby installations plus allows us to pass any arguments we need to install various Rubies. I cannot tell what LWRPs in this suggested cookbook are capable of without looking at it but I can imagine it wasn't created with kind of features Travis CI environment uses.
