I remember a chunksize
of 0 means "default" or "automatic" chunk size given the model parameter dimension. https://github.com/TuringLang/DynamicPPL.jl/blob/8c432b60393153d4706a3e89d3e56b01a00c8022/ext/DynamicPPLForwardDiffExt.jl#L29-L30

Ah, perfect! That was the piece of code I was looking for; thanks!
But exactly, so we should be using chunksize=nothing
for default since that's what ADTypes.jl uses (if you do AutoForwardDiff()
, then it results in nothing
).

There is an argument about always being explicit, but yeah, I think nothing
is good (setting chunksize to 0 does feels a bit strange looking from the outside)

But chunksize=0
is more confusing that chunksize=nothing
, no?

yep, that's what I mean

IIRC that was not touched when moving to ADTypes, so probably a very old design choice. Just using the ADTypes default value for this purpose seems easier.
