Is there big performance hit calling [F].create on every function call

Despite that slf4j caches logger instances internally, I'd say there is some performance hit anyway.

The only way to be certain is to benchmark in your own context. My bet is you can make it look terrible in a tight loop that creates and logs one trivial time per iteration, and you can make it look inconsequential when you're logging remote calls in the real world.

I'd avoid it, but I wouldn't make a massive effort to rip it out without numbers.
