a. Is this typescript or grunt-ts driven behavior?

This is TypeScript an example

b. Can it cause problems?

No, its designed to be that way in TypeScript. Its the JavaScript module pattern.

c. Are you aware of any workarounds to make it render as I expected?

Have the module definition in one file. If a module is in multiple files its going to come out like this.
