Thanks, Daniel. Good suggestion. It does bring up a subject that I think we should all discuss: I would like to suggest that the most common user experience will not include running the users’ UI expect perhaps occasionally. You two may have a different view, but I think users should be able to run ShakeCast in the background for months at a time and only receive notifications via email or txt. In this realm, perhaps we can just turn the messaging into an email from their own system to the operator?

Users should subscribe to blog, but it should also be possible to display a notification in users' UI. This could be done the same way we're thinking about alerting ShakeCast systems to update their software

That's a good point @wald-usgs! The message could be displayed in the UI, but should definitely be sent as a notification to admin users
