Hi @nathan-chappell, apologies for the bad experience you're having. We are in the process of releasing a new version 2.0.0 which is still in alpha.
However, we do have a stable version: Grakn Core 1.8.4 (https://github.com/graknlabs/grakn/releases/tag/1.8.4) with grakn-client 1.8.0 (https://www.npmjs.com/package/grakn-client/v/1.8.0).
Please try them and let me know how it goes!
