What is your strategy for dev? With or without base? I'm asking because of <a href='...'>.

Without, the app should work from it's own directory on any directory. So local dev in root an in production in a folder. I was providing the base path with cli param vite build --base=/my/public/path/

I started writing a patch.

As for links: Vite injects import.meta.env.BASE_URL, is that enough for you? You can use it to construct a simple <Link href="/star-wars"> component that prepends the base url.

Base URL is now fully supported for all kinds of use cases; https://github.com/brillout/vite-plugin-ssr#base-url. It is now also unit tested.
