I believe that when you run the instruments command-line tool it produces different output than the GUI tool. You just get the plist files and not the .trace files.

I thought so too until I found out they actually save both.. I have the plist files saved to the location I specified, but the .trace file is saved in the same location as the driver, in my case, it's a python file
