Perhaps this belongs in another issue, but there are a couple opportunities for further improvement:

  • Use the affiliation of co-authors but not to the same extent of the target authors. For example, if someone is co-authoring with Hospital for Special Surgery, they are more likely to be Weill Cornell person. Could the co-authors affiliation be weighted less??
  • Use location labels (city and country) for matching against existing locations.
  • Use locations that are close to existing locations. As shown in the poster, most co-authors live close by.
  • If someone has an affiliation of non-United States location, and they have no track record of authoring outside the U.S., that should dramatically decrease the odds that person wrote the article.
  • Just a hunch, but I'm not sure institutional name variant has much of an added benefit. Worth exploring.
