Hello, I'm sorry it took me this long to notice your issue.

but I would like to experiment with the gtk2 module.

I'm sorry to inform you that I will remove gtk2 support. In the end, it was too much effort and the toolkit barely had any official support or documentation at all, it was a pain to solve my issues.

How do I tell nim to use gtk2 instead?

You actually need a special compile time switch: --defined:nguibackend=gtk2. It is implemented here. You may find an example of how to use it here. Also, I never tested it with the new memory models, so I cannot vouch for it.

I see there hasn't been much activity for awhile with ngui, but even so, my impression so far is that it is very nice.

You are not being deceived, I will archive the repository soon. While I find the approach (one interface for multiple gui toolkits) commendable, I think I will move from Nim in the future as well. I was in the process of supporting a new backend through nuklear immediate GUI. It is unfortunate but I hope to resume the project in the future, one day.
