I believe it is actually the flashlight that is tied to this issue. I reloaded said flashlight then unloaded and segfault.

Okay, this makes sense know. Save corrupts. (I even just tested it) You save and any flashlights you are holding can't unload.
I made some unscientific-processy assumptions along that caused me to specify the wrong thing. Doesn't seem to work with guns. Sorry about any confusion.

Ahh yeah that worked for me too. I couldn't figure out how to fix it, but the offending line is
item.cpp:43 if (it->is_gun())
oddly enough.
