I would say, I'm having issues with the search function too. I want my search to talk to the backend. Currently, using a function defined in the search-options. Puts my server at halt, given I have updated server params and try to load items. The way we do with table events. Can someone give clarity here.

You could try setting externalQuery: searchKey and setting your own search input box，I found that this allows searchFn to be triggered when the last character is cleared.
