Yes, entirely possible. Currently, I am defining time 0 as time of admission to the ICU. If a measurement has a timestamp that predates admission time, then the resulting hour
value will be negative. The most likely explanation -- for small negative values -- is uncertainty in timestamps, especially the time of admission timestamp. The process for recording time of admission is imprecise. One possible solution, if we don't want to throw out data, is to redefine time 0 as time of first (valid) measurement. I'm not sure what to do about large negative values.
Alternatively, if the number of negative hour
values is small, maybe we just throw them out?
