So far, we have been successful in adding desired features, from an American perspective, into OpenMapTiles. Therefore, at this time there is not an immediate need to host our own vector tile server for the purpose of customizing tile data. In addition, #1 is no longer blocked due to new features added in OpenMapTiles 3.13. There may still be reasons why OSM US might want to host their own vector tiles, however, customization is not presently one of them.
