Zain Ul Abidin's Projects

automated-cooling-system icon automated-cooling-system

A cooling system that used a temperature input to control the speed of the fan. This used completely analog circuitry using a 555-timer and Mosfets to generate a PWM wave and simple RC parameters to control the thresholds.

checkers-game icon checkers-game

A terminal based Checkers game that was designed such that two players could play against each other, no wrong moves were allowed, a tally of the score was constantly updated and special attention was paid to ensure the game was intuitive and aesthetically pleasing.

obstacle-avoiding-robot icon obstacle-avoiding-robot

An obstacle avoiding robot that achieved its functionality without the use of a microcontroller, using a complex logic circuit instead. We used IR sensors, logic gates and motor driver H-Bridge as our circuit components.

parco-transportation-optimization icon parco-transportation-optimization

A Linear Program focused on the transportation service of PARCO, with the goal to minimize cost of transportation while meeting all the requirements at the various sites that PARCO supplies fuel to.

radio-communication-with-rtl-sdr icon radio-communication-with-rtl-sdr

A software defined radio differs from a traditional radio in several ways. The biggest difference is in how RF is detected and demodulated. An SDR uses a quadrature sampling detector (QSD) that divides the incoming waveform into an in-phase and quadrature signal. The in-phase signal is the first 90ΒΊ of the RF sine wave and the quadrature signal is the second 90ΒΊ segment of the RF sine wave. SDR has several advantages over traditional radios.

sonarcap icon sonarcap

A device to aid the visually impaired. The design included a cap fitted with vibration motors that notified the user about the location of incoming obstacles. Taking input from the IR sensors the vibration intensity increased as obstacles got closer. This was paired with audio feedback where users would hear the location of an obstacle that might be in close proximity.
