Hi, Everyone
My Environment is:

• CentOS 8 Stream;
• cockpit.x86_64 version: 276.1-1.el8
• cockpit-identities-0.1.10-1.el8
• cockpit-file-sharing-3.2.9-2.el8
  I can add users successfully, however the web pages report this error while creating users:

Failed to check password status
Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'split')

How can I resolve this error, tks~

Describe the bug
When the field Home Directory is left empty, since the new user shouldn't have a home directory, cockpit identities automatically uses /home/ as home directory.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Create new user
2. leave home directory empty
3. click create
4. /home/ will be created.

Expected behavior
Create a user without home directory

Hi, Is it possible to provide a package for Ubuntu Server LTS 22.04 ?
Pls do consider.

Describe the bug
I got an error messages.
"Failed to get shells: Invalid regular expression: invalid group specifier name"

This may be a problem cause of macOS "beta" and ipados "beta".
I don't have a device that isn't a beta.
If you are connected successfully on a non-beta apple device, you can close this issue.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. server is alma linux on aarch64.
2. cockpit behind nginx-proxy-manager and cloudflare zero trust zone for security.
3. client is safari on macOS ventura 13.1.
4. Go to 'https://mydomain/identities' with safari
   ** chrome and firefox works. **

Expected behavior
access Identities without error
show edit, add user

Describe the bug
On Fedora CoreOS (or IoT) systems, the procedure to install Cockpit is a bit different than on normal non-rpm-ostree systems. To be able to run the webserver on the same device, cockpit-ws has to be run in a podman container. If installing cockpit-identities on such systems, the podman parts will fail, as they require that cockpit-ws is not installed on the host system.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Follow the official guide for installing Cockpit on CoreOS
2. Additionally install cockpit-identities
3. Fail on running the cockpit-ws container, because cockpit-ws is already installed on the host system

Expected behavior
cockpit-ws is not a required dependency.

• OS: Fedora IoT 38
• Cockpit Version: 250.1.1
