Jacker is a small Tauri desktop wrapper around yt-dlp.
It accepts a YouTube video or playlist URL, probes metadata before downloading,
shows the thumbnail/title, builds the quality dropdown from real available
formats, and streams download progress from bundled yt-dlp.
The packaged app bundles yt-dlp and FFmpeg. End users do not need to install
Node.js, Rust, Python, yt-dlp, FFmpeg, Homebrew, or any other command-line
dependency before downloading videos.
The macOS bundles are written under:
src-tauri/target/release/bundle/
Source development requires Node.js 20+ and Rust/Cargo. The build downloads a
standalone yt-dlp binary and copies a standalone FFmpeg binary into
src-tauri/binaries/ automatically.
npm install
npm run tauri devnpm run tauri build- The default download folder is
~/Downloads/Jacker; the app creates it when the first download starts. Best availableis always offered. Resolution options are discovered fromyt-dlpmetadata for the inspected URL.- Playlist ranges only appear after the URL is detected as a playlist.
- Conversion and embedding options use the bundled FFmpeg binary.
