A lightweight, aggressive browser extension that breaks through internal clipboard restrictions on platform Ace Editor.
Many coding platforms, educational portals, and interview sites use JavaScript to block your native Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V keystrokes. They trap your code in an isolated virtual clipboard to prevent pasting from external IDEs like VS Code. This extension intercepts those keystrokes before the website's anti-cheat scripts can see them, and forcefully pushes/pulls text directly to your system clipboard.
- Force Paste (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V): Bypasses Ace Editor's hidden 1x1 pixel input field to inject text using legacy TextEvent and document.execCommand.
- Force Copy (Ctrl+C / Cmd+C): Extracts staged text from Ace Editor's virtual memory and writes it directly to your operating system's clipboard.
- Headless & Lightweight: No background UI, no popups. It runs silently on all pages just waiting for your keystrokes.
Since this extension requires aggressive DOM interception, it is not on the Chrome Web Store. You must install it manually as an "Unpacked Extension."
-
Download the Code:
- Click the green Code button at the top of this repository and select Download ZIP.
- Extract the ZIP file into a folder on your computer.
-
Load into your Browser (Chrome/Edge/Brave):
- Open your browser and navigate to the extensions page: chrome://extensions/ (or edge://extensions/).
- Turn on Developer mode (usually a toggle in the top right corner).
- Click the Load unpacked button in the top left.
- Select the folder where you extracted the ZIP file.
- Navigate to the website with the blocked Ace Editor.
- CRITICAL STEP: You must grant the website permission to read your clipboard. Click the Site Information icon (the lock or settings icon to the left of the URL bar), find Clipboard, and set it to Allow.
- Click inside the code editor.
- Press Ctrl + V (Windows/Linux) or Cmd + V (Mac) to paste code from your external IDE.
- Highlight text and press Ctrl + C / Cmd + C to copy it back to your local computer.
- "It's not pasting anything!" Make sure you completed Step 2 above. Modern browsers will silently block navigator.clipboard.readText() if the user hasn't explicitly granted clipboard permissions to the specific URL.
- "The extension icon is greyed out." This is normal. The extension has no popup menu, so the icon is unclickable. It is running in the background.
- "It didn't work on the first try." If you just installed or updated the extension, you must completely refresh the target webpage (F5 or Ctrl+R) so the script can inject itself into the environment.
This tool was built for developers and students who prefer writing code in their local environments (like VS Code or Neovim) before submitting it to practice platforms. Please respect the academic integrity policies of your institution or interview platform when using this extension.
