The web has gotten so bloated we need AI to find the content. Pulp Browser is a GTK-based web browser that strips out *everything* from a webpage except the main content (JS, CSS, forms, etc..).

README

Pulp

Pulp is a small GTK browser that passes every page through Pulpie before displaying it. Navigation, advertisements, scripts, forms, and other boilerplate are removed, leaving a quiet reader view with links, code, tables, and inline images.

Requirements

Pulp currently targets Debian and Ubuntu desktops with GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1.

sudo apt install python3-venv python3-gi gir1.2-gtk-3.0 gir1.2-webkit2-4.1
python3 -m venv --system-site-packages .venv
source .venv/bin/activate
pip install -r requirements.txt

The first page load downloads Pulpie's orange-small model from Hugging Face. Later launches use the local model cache.

Browser

Start with an empty reader:

source .venv/bin/activate
./browser.py

Or open a URL immediately:

./browser.py https://www.npr.org/

Links inside cleaned pages stay in Pulp. JavaScript is disabled, remote images load inline, and the save button exports the current page as Markdown.

Keyboard shortcuts:

  • Ctrl+L: focus the address bar
  • Ctrl+R: reload
  • Ctrl+S: save Markdown
  • Alt+Left / Alt+Right: navigate history

Command Line

The companion CLI converts a page directly to a Markdown file:

./md.py https://rickcarlino.com/ -o rickcarlino.md
