Django MongoDB World Cup

A World Cup 2026 analytics app built with Django and MongoDB.

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.13+
  • MongoDB Atlas cluster (or local MongoDB instance)
  • Django 6.0+

Setup

  1. Clone the repo and create a virtual environment:
git clone https://github.com/AfiMaameDufie/django-mongodb-mql-panel.git
cd django-mongodb-mql-panel
python -m venv venv
source venv/bin/activate
  1. Install dependencies:
pip install -e .

This installs all required packages defined in pyproject.toml:

  • django>=6.0
  • django-mongodb-backend
  • django-mongodb-extensions
  • django-debug-toolbar
  • python-dotenv
  1. Create a .env file with your MongoDB connection string:
MONGODB_URI="mongodb+srv://<username>:<password>@<cluster>.mongodb.net/worldcup?retryWrites=true&w=majority"
  1. Run migrations and load data:
python manage.py migrate
python manage.py load_matches
  1. Start the server:
python manage.py runserver
  1. Visit http://localhost:8000 and use the Django Debug Toolbar's MQL panel to inspect queries.
