Building flexcat after fresh git clone causes make to invoke flexcat

Trying to build flexcat on Linux fails due to recursive dependency on flexcat itself:

make[1]: Entering directory `/home/marcus/git/flexcat/src'
  FC FlexCat_cat.h
make[1]: flexcat: Command not found

Or is there a way to bootstrap it that I'm missing?

Access to the byte before a string

When scanning a PO file, the byte before a string may be accessed when the string is empty. In src/scanpo.c, line 579 of the current revision should be changed as follows:

-if(line[strlen(line)-1] == '"')
+if(*line != '\0' && line[strlen(line)-1] == '"')

This caused a segmentation fault on macOS.
