How to re-init the field for editing?

As in the title, how can I bind to a pre-populated model so the component can initialize itself to that value?

Actually the component is always blank on start, even if i print the model value in a div apart, where I can clearly see that the value is correctly set, so it seems to be an unsupported feature or kind of a bug.
