At the begin, we're using sudo and after that we're run command that require root rights without it (make install, apt).

I think the right move is to start it as the current user, ask for password to elevate the privileges then run the parts that requires it and exit root to run the last configuration part.

Apparently, apt is not suitable for script because the API is not stable. It's suggested to use apt-get instead.
