Pre-allocation may be useless

• When file system is exclusively used by one application
• On certain file systems

Please consider making pre-allocation optional.

Say I figure that my drive can hold 101 nonces and I set -n 101 -m 10. Plotter will adjust -n to 110, then fail to pre-allocate as there isn't enough space on disk. Should instead adjust -n to 100.

There's not many optimizers available for Linux, I need one for use with GPU plotter.
I plan to restore optimizer and improve it (found few potential buffer overruns). What about pulling these changes here?

I just created a ~250Gb Plot.
It goes from 0 to 958464.

Now I want to create a new Plot from 958465 to 1912321.
It should be again ~250Gb

./plot -k xxx -x 1 -d xxx -m 512 -t 8 -n 953674 -s 958465

When I run it like that I get an Buffer overflow error and the Program is crashing

Any Ideas?

I have moved 2 plot files (419 GB each) off a SATA drive to make room to plot more. So, I know there is sufficient space.

When I try to plot 1600 nonces (4 GB) I get the error

File pre-allocation failed.
The *.plotting files are created with size 0.

Plotting 160 nonces works.

Linux Mint 32 bit, omdcct running sse core.

Does this plotter does create POC2 files?

It looks when a huge file is created, it could freeze the system. I used redhat and this happened. So it would be nice to produce multiple files with the size specified.
