Make this available as a plugin/extension that applies automatically

For folks who prefer to have the behavior applied automatically and would rather just install a plugin.

Since Meet's code could change at any time, we may want to add some pre-flight checks to make sure the extension's styling degrades gracefully.

This bookmarklet as a Greasemonkey script

Hi Andy,

Thanks for this really cool bookmarklet. I've slightly updated it and been using it as a Greasemonkey user script.

What I've changed:

• Removed the initial check, Greasemonkey ensures that it will run only on the correct page
• Changed the (⌘ + d) in the selector to (ctrl + d) since I use Linux.

Didn't know how else to tell you so I just created an issue. :P

Improve mic selector to be platform-agnostic

The selector below is macOS-specific, preventing the mic toggle functionality from working on other platforms. This should be made more generic.

Make micButton target more resilient

The mic toggle button is currently targeted using aria attributes and platform-specific text, like aria-label="Turn off microphone (⌘ + d)". That's probably not the most resilient or platform-agnostic way to target that button, so something else should be used instead.

Actions aren’t easily visible over some videos

The actions are sometimes difficult to see over certain video colors, like white.

would it be possible to enhance it so that the white band BG would appear when the mouse enters that area (assuming window focus)? Sometimes its tough to see some of the actions depending on the video, and bringing the white bar back on hover could help.
