Allow Highlighting of Numbers/Squares

Especially for harder puzzles, it is useful to be able to highlight
numbers/squares. There are 2 requests here:

1. Allow the user to highlight everywhere a number is used (whether in
notes or solved for square).

2. Let the user highlight squares they wish to (preferably with different
colors), so that they can use simple coloring techniques to eliminate
possibilities.

disable help lines

Hello,

I love sudoku and I usually don't play with hints, the actually distract me.
A wonderful feature would be to disable the extra lines that are drawn now.

I do like the delay that happens when you press a field, that really helps.
Have you even played sudoku of braintraining for the NDS? The did a great as
well.

Hope you'll make it better!

proposed hint system

Have there be a "correct guesses once" option available. When this is chosen,
the game will
turn red any hint you've already placed for which there already is one of that
number in the
row or column. It's not as powerful as just giving me some random, correctly
placed
number, therefore this is kind of a "beginner hint": it requires that you're
trying to guess,
and usually doesn't give you an answer. And I said "once" to keep it from
flagging ALL of
my wrong guesses-- once I use this one hint, the other places I'm screwing up
may become
clear-- that leaves it still a challenge.

Built in puzzle unsolvable

The 13th puzzle in the Easy group is unsolveable.

Opening the puzzle from fresh, the centre block is missing (3,5,7)
The 7 can only go in the centre position of this block.

Now there is no position in which 7 can go in the bottom-centre block.

Unable to delete notes for a completed number

When using the option "Disable completed numbers", it's not possible to
delete notes for a number which has already been completed.

- What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Enable the "Disable completed numbers" option
2. Create notes for a number, say, number 4.
3. Complete all the 4s in the puzzle (button for number 4 becomes disabled)
4. Try to delete the notes for number 4 in the other squares -- it's not
possible because the button for number 4 is disabled.

- What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected being able to delete the notes after completing the number.
The buttons should always be enabled in notes mode.

- What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
OpenSudoku 0.7.0, on Android 1.5

Auto notes

A system to automatically fill 1-9 as pencil marks in all open cells. In effect
the opposite of
the clear notes button.

It takes several minutes to lay the board out the way I solve these puzzles, it
would be a
great time saver and make the process more enjoyable.

Changing background pattern

First of all, I want to say thanks for an exceptional sudoku program and
all your work! That said, I would like to be able to change the pattern of
how the backgrounds of cells are highlighted in puzzles. At it stands, the
backgrounds of cells are highlighted in gray if they are the initial
numbers provided at the outset of the puzzle. I personally find this
background distracting when I'm solving a puzzle. I would like to be able
to have the option to change the background to all white or to having
alternating squares highlighted. Options for additional background colors
would be great, too. See attached file for an example of a background
pattern I'm suggesting.

Thanks again for your consideration!

Optional Border

Since it can sometimes be hard to click on cells near the edge of the
screen (I assume because of the way the touch screen works), it would be
nice to be able to have a border around the board.

Push trackball in SN / Pop modes to enter value

I really like the SN mode, but when I'm tired I have trouble hitting the
squares with my finger. At those times, it is nice to use the trackball.
It seems natural to press the trackball to enter/remove the currently
selected number/mark. This would benefit the Pop mode as well.

Number Pad enhancement

Regarding when you successfully place all of a single number, any way to add a
feature
(option preferably) that dims or greys or colorizes the button on the number
pad?

1: add option in menu for such that if adding the number 9 no longer follows
the rules of
sudoku, the button to press is:
        A: disabled
        B: grayed out/colorized

I know that many sudoku games (mobile ones at least) have this feature, and
would like to
see it possibly placed into OpenSudoku!

PS: you rock for this game ;) there are other sudoku games on the market, but
this one by
far is the best ;D

Can't edit note when number button is disabled

If, for example, the user puts all cells with note 1, now resolving the
sudoku puts all the corrects 1's. The program will disable the button 1 in
edit mode and also in note mode. With this you cannot delete the remain
notes with 1 of remaining cells.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

It should remember your last-used input method, or have a preference for
which to start with. Instead, it always resets to the pop up method.

Trackball press should highlight too

When you press your finger on a square it will highlight the row and
column. It would be nice if pushing down on the trackball had the same
effect. My finger is big and gets in the way. :-)

9 square box lines not visually noticeable enough

I'm finding the thicker lines around the 9 square boxes to be not quite

Being a different color might help. Being thicker by one or two pixels
would definitely help. Both options would probably help the most.

Option to stretch grid in Pop mode

If the playing field would stretch to fill the available space, I think it
would help, especially in landscape mode. This would need to be an option
though, because it would probably annoy some people for the grid not to be
square.
