flatabulous's Introduction

Flatabulous

Update - I am looking for additional collaborators and maintainers to help me out with this. I have been keeping busy lately, and have been using Ubuntu sporadically, so it would be nice to have some help!

Flatabulous

This is a Flat theme for Ubuntu and other debian based Linux Systems. This is based on the Ultra-Flat theme. Special thanks to @steftrikia and Satyajit Sahoo for the original work.

Installation

Update

Install it manually, if you are on Ubuntu 16.04 or higher. If you prefer the .deb installers, please download the correct one, based on the version from here.

This theme was designed specially for the Unity environment on Ubuntu as I have only tested it on Ubuntu. It might not work properly for the other versions.

Imgur The terminal

To install the theme, you must first install the Unity Tweak Tool. It can be installed by simply running the command:

sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool

Update

If you are on Ubuntu 16.04 or higher, run the commands below to install Ubuntu Tweak:

wget -q -O - http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu xenial-getdeb apps" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/getdeb.list'
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

or head over to their website, downloading the .deb file (recommended).

1. Using the .deb file for Debian, Ubuntu and derivatives (Recommended)

Download the .deb file from here, double click to open with Ubuntu Software Center and click on install. Then, install the theme using ubuntu-tweak.

2. Using the noobslab PPA

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/themes
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install flatabulous-theme

3. Manually

Download the source to the theme here. If a problem occurs with your installation, kindly download the correct version based on your version of Ubuntu from here. If you are a developer or a designer, I also encourage you to contribute to it. Create a folder, called .theme in your home directory. This can be simply created by firing up your terminal, and then running

mkdir .themes

Now this is a hidden directory, to view this in Nautilus, you can press Ctrl/โŒ˜ + H. Alternatively, you can also place the extracted files in your /usr/share/themes/ folder.

Flat Icons

Flat Icons Dashboard

For icons, I use the ultra-flat-icons theme. It is available in blue (recommended), orange and mint green colors. To install this, you can run the following commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/icons
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ultra-flat-icons

Alternatively, you could also run sudo apt-get install ultra-flat-icons-orange OR sudo apt-get install ultra-flat-icons-green.

based on you color preference. I recommend these flat icons, but you can also look at Numix and Flattr.

Now press your super key, search for Ubuntu Tweak and fire it. Under the tweaks tab, there is an option for theme. Under that select the Flatabulous theme. Under the icon settings, select ultra-flat-icons. Restart your computer, and you should be good to go! You computer will look something like this after you restart.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. What is your Sublime Text theme ?

A. My Sublime text theme is a port of Brogrammer and Numix themes, which I have tweaked a little using this awesome tool for better contrast and colors. My exact version can be found here.

Quentin Gerodel has also contributed a version for Atom, which can be found here.

Q. Where can I find your wallpaper ?

A. This wallpaper can be found here and here.

Credits: Meteor by Nina Geometrieva

Q. What are your terminal theme and settings ?

A. I am presently using zsh with oh-my-zsh configuration. For the colorscheme, I am using a modified version of the default tango colors, material colors and the one dark scheme.

My zsh config can be found here. This works if you have powerline fonts installed and oh-my-zsh setup. All other dotfiles can be found here.

Here is a script that will add a new profile in gnome-terminal that mimics my terminal settings.

A one liner install can be done by running the command

wget -O xt http://git.io/vn6HM && chmod +x xt && ./xt && rm xt

I have my terminal set at 10% transparency. More cool color schemes can be found here, for a variety of other terminals.

flatabulous's Issues

Theme file is invalid

Ubuntu Tweaks isn't showing Flatabulous in the dropdowns, and when trying to manually add the index.theme file.

Placed the extracted files in both ~/.themes and /usr/share/themes

Any Ideas?

Ubuntu 16.04 - nautilus save as

So, I think the text should be a bit more from the edge. Look here

14.04:
selection_014

16.04:
selection_016

Maybe I'm a bit picky, but the old one looks nicer :)

To replicate it, open "simple scan" and press crop, then save.

Battery indicator looks squashed.

Hi, there seems to be an issue with the battery indicator looking squashed. I have attached a screenshot.

I am using Ubuntu Gnome 15.10 with the Ultra Flat icons.

Light version?

I would like to have a light version of this theme, with light titles, etc. Do you have any plans on creating it?

unity title bar icon and check list problem

Awesome theme~ but I found some problems

In the title bar, you can see some application's icon can't change correctly. (Like Spotify, Skype and Chrome that they have the flat icon, but can't showed)

and the check list don't have the box if there is not checked:

Ubuntu 16.04

Hi..

I use your theme on both laptop and desktop, and wanted to hear if you are gonna support Ubuntu 16.04 as well? It should be quite close to 15.10 since it uses it same nautilus.

Thank you for a great theme!

Nautilus bookmark options on right-click: colours blend.

I noticed that in Ubuntu 16.04 the theme colours in Nautilus are such that hardly any text is visible in the right-click menu which is used to manage bookmarks in Nautilus. Please see the image below. The colours change on hover, so it is still usuable, but a bit more finicky than it could be.

Example

Other than that: Great work on the theme. I've never liked one as much as I like yours.

"close window/minimize/restore window" buttons still similar to that of ambiance theme

First of all, this is a refreshing change to the Zukimack themes. Big thanks+respect to the conceptualizers!
Right now Im experiencing the issue stated in Subject above.
I'm done installing both Theme and Icons. I also made clear to pick the theme and icon-set in both the Ubuntu Tweak and Unity Tweak Tool, but the Ambiance look for the buttons is still there. Anyone with similar issue?
Picture below shows flat-icon-green scheme implemented, yet with the buttons in question very visible.

Where to get the wallpeper.

Hey. I did not find the wallpaper from screenshots among the files.
Could you please provide a link to it?

Receiving support?

Hi there! This isn't a issue but I didn't know where to ask!
Are you accepting donations or supports? Because may you get some extra support for Flatabulous!
I don't trying to spam you, but I want to invite you to beerpay.io, a simple platform to monetize open source projects, like Flatabulous.
I know that the open source is free, but it's okay if someone want to contribute in other way.

Thanks for this work man!

Padding for gnome-terminal

I think it could be nice to have a little padding for gnome-terminal. I've played with that, and I think I've found the best padding values for it: (with 12pt font size)

  • top, bottom: 5px
  • left, right: 10px

The screen: (and the code)

Cool theme!

After installing the theme and icons

It Looks great! ๐Ÿ˜ .Couldn't stop myself from creating this issue. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Thanx for this theme!

Flatabulous is delicious.

about Wallpaper

Hello, thanks your theme. I very like it, including your wallpaper.
But could you provide me yours wallpaper? Thanks

Ubuntu 16.04 Checkboxes

Running the latest 16.04 beta build of Ubuntu and gave Flatabulous a shot for the first time. Radial and regular checkboxes seem to be broken. Verified working with default theme.

Wrong color for the Metacity theme

Hello,
On Ubuntu Mate (that uses Metacity themes for WM), I noticed that the border color looks lighter than it should. In the theme screenshots (taken on Unity, thus not using Metacity), the theme uses #2d2d2d as border color; in metacity-theme-1.xml, it is set instead to #424242 for some reason and doesn't match the windows' menu.

Checkboxes and radios difficult to find

With the Flatabulous theme the checkboxes and radios doesn't appear in unchecked state :

gtk-widgets

Reported on Ubuntu 15.04 with the Flatabulous theme (master at 4fb5a1e). Please note that I have the same problem with other themes like Numix.

transparency of taskbars

I installed theme, icons and it works properly. However, I need to change transparency of taskbars. I tried to find this changing setting within "Ubuntu tweak" tool but i cannot. How can i change transparency of taskbars ?

Background color of Telegram unread messages counter

Hi.
This theme is awesome. every thing is cool! Thank you!! ๐Ÿ‘
But i have an issue with "background color of Telegram unread messages counter".
Actually it's not an issue, but its background color... It is not so cool.

So what to do now?

Ubuntu 16.04 - nautilus sidebar

I noticed a new bug (I think)

This is 14.04 nautilus:
selection_013
I changed some of the colors, never mind that :)

And here is 16.04:
selection_012
Really minor thing, but something is not looking right :)

Hope you see it as I do :)

Possible port fo GNOME Shell

I have been using your theme on my ubuntu with unity for some time, and I love it so much, but now I'm using the ubuntuGNOME and I still want your theme ):

Can I expect a Flatabulous port to GNOME Shell?

Sorry for any shit english, not my native language haha

Setup a PPA installation for the theme!

I would like to have a PPA installer for the theme. Where the user can add a PPA and the run sudo apt-get Flatabulous install and sudo apt-get update to fetch the latest updates. I presently have no experience with creating PPA's and writing installer scripts for theme. Looking for help here!

Ubuntu 16.04 minor issue

Hi!

I'm testing your theme with Ubuntu 16.04 and for now I've noticed only one minor issue. 0px paddings/margins inside Nautilus sidebar.
Preview: http://imgur.com/1gqPLQJ
Because look&feel is mainly done with CSS I was wondering, maybe you can guide me to find a proper class name in order to add this missing paddings?

P.S.
I've tried other themes from other providers and they had same issue.

Great work BTW!
