Deploying with Podman as a Service

1. Build the Docker image with Podman

podman build -t lalala .

2. Deploy with Podman Quadlet (Recommended)

Create a Quadlet container file in ~/.config/containers/systemd/ (for user services) or /etc/containers/systemd/ (for system-wide):

[Container]
Image=lalala
Name=lalala
Publish=5000:5000
Restart=always

Reload systemd and enable the service:

systemctl --user daemon-reload
systemctl --user enable --now container-lalala.service

3. (Legacy) Use Podman systemd integration

Deprecated: Use Quadlet instead of podman generate systemd for new deployments.

Generate a systemd unit file:

podman generate systemd --name lalala --files --new

Copy the generated unit file to your systemd user directory:

cp container-lalala.service ~/.config/systemd/user/

Enable and start the service:

systemctl --user enable container-lalala.service
systemctl --user start container-lalala.service

4. Access the app

Visit http://<your-server-ip>:5000 in your browser.

Notes:

  • Quadlet is the recommended way to manage Podman containers with systemd.
  • The container will restart automatically if it fails.
  • You can manage the service with systemctl --user commands.
  • For rootless Podman, ensure your user is in the appropriate group and systemd user services are enabled.
  • For production, consider using a reverse proxy (e.g., nginx) in front of the Flask app for SSL and routing.
