syslog-ng.org's Introduction

The syslog-ng.org website

This is the source of syslog-ng.org. To build it, you need to have Leiningen installed, and afterwards the static site is buildable with the lein build-site command. The needed files are out/index.html and out/bundles/, the rest is not used by the site.

To run a local server that serves the content and rebuilds automatically, run lein ring server-headless.

syslog-ng.org's Issues

Page publishing broken?

Although the latest merges finished, and travis reported no error, the gh-pages branch is not updated. I assume it failed because I set the tokens, and I do not have access to the repo anymore. A set -e to build/travis-publish-gh-page.sh could be useful, and a refresh of the token in .travis.yml.

A few ideas...

We could rename Features to Why syslog-ng?, because we are answering questions, and that header is more catchy, and a tiny bit more appropriate.

(Thanks Jim for the idea!)

Move download buttons higher?

Instead of having them in the "Getting Started" section, how about under the social buttons? They feel like they belong closer to that area. Plus, they'd be visible without scrolling, and there's some empty area there.

Offer NEWS as RSS

As the title says. We need a little DSL for news then, and we can easily generate an atom/rss feed from that.

Integrate the 3rd-party repo page better

Having a link to the third party repo page on the BalaBit website is not the most useful, that page isn't easy to quickly find information at. Instead, I'd have a popup dialog with tabs for the various OSes.

One tab for Free OSes, another for commercial Unixes. Within each tab, we'd have a sidebar for each OS. Or perhaps a table? Not sure. Something visually aesthetic.

Supported versions to become a dialog?

Scrolling down to supported versions isn't the most intuitive. How about putting that info into a dialog instead?

The dialog would have the supported branches on the sidebar.
