I added a new purge_cache utility that can be used to manually clean the cache for now

I'm wondering if using appdirs.user_cache_dir() would be better than tempfile.gettempdir() ?

There has to be some Python package out there for this sort of general file caching with automatic cleaning out there

For now, purge_cache seems sufficient to me as this is only an issue if extracting a lot of regions. Your system should prune these files when necessary as they should be in the tempdir of the user computer.
