muzzleapp's Issues

Not working for me at all

Hi,

Muzzle does not work for me at all. I tried several screensharing apps (Google Hangout, Slack call, Screenhero) and during none of them did Muzzle turn on DND. Can I somehow help you to debug what goes wrong on my machine?

Two things that may differ from your setup: I am using macOS set a German locale and my partition is set to be case sensitive.

Would be great if I could use Muzzle!

Personal Google Hangouts message notification appeared during work Google Hangouts account full desktop share

I ensured Muzzle daemon was running before sharing my desktop on a Google Hangout using my work account. I just got finished telling everyone on the Hangout that they probably saw the Product Hunt featured product Muzzle and what a great idea it is that it'll block embarrassing notifications from my wife displaying. An embarrassing notification from my wife promptly displays. I go back to sharing only my browser. The notification that displayed was from my personal Google account and was a Hangouts message.

Feature Request: Snooze notifications

I'd really appreciate a small addition to Muzzle that would allow me to turn on Do Not Disturb mode for a period of time before being automatically re-enabled.

This could be as simple as an option in the context menu on the Muzzle Menu Item for "Do not disturb for..." with a few options "5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, other"

Alternatively, if there's an app that does this out there already, I'd be happy to use that or would appreciate a bit of direction on the accessibility API used within Muzzle to enable / disable the do not disturb mode so I can hack something together for myself.

Error on launching Muzzle

When I launch Muzzle, I get an error that reads:

"Muzzle failed to process a script properly and the app won't work. Relaunching may fix this. If it does not, please contact me."

Relaunching does not fix the issue, nor does a reboot (for a separate reason, but still..)

Running MacOS 10.13.5

Notifications Still Show?

In a Zoom meeting the other day, sharing my screen... I still saw notifications come in. is Muzzle just "hiding" these from screenshare, or is it suppose to turn on Do Not Disturb during this time?

My apologies if this is explained somewhere, I just could not find it.

  • Cheers

Could Muzzle trigger DND as soon as WebEx (or others) starts a session?

Hi Bryan, this is a helpful addition to my system.

I'm working in an organization where 10-15 people can be on a WebEx call at once, and during a half-hour call, nearly everyone's computer fires off multiple audible notifications (e.g. upcoming meeting reminders, Slack DMs) that interrupt and/or drown out people's voices enough that other listeners like me have a hard time following the conversation.

I'd love to be able to trigger DND automatically as soon as the user joins a WebEx session - as a participant, whether or not they're sharing a screen.

Is that an event that you've figured out a way to capture? e.g. I wonder whether - like Muzzle might be capturing a "share my screen" event - there's a "microphone is enabled/turned on" event that Muzzle could work from?

In thinking about this, there may be folks who are very attached to the narrow focus of Muzzle today. If that's a consideration, would you consider making this a configurable option?

Feature Request: Add screen recording apps?

Sticking a muzzle on notifications when using screen recording apps would be awesome.

As a feature request, please consider adding QuickTime, ScreenFlow, and Capto (as starting points) when in recording mode to Muzzles' capabilities.

Thanks!

Muzzle crashes in both Techmith Camtasia and Techsmith Snagit

  • I downloaded the app, thanks for making this tool free (like it was in the good old osx app/tool days :)
  • It took me an extra email to you to find out the tool is smart enough to recognize when the screen is shared/recorded. Shame on me. This is brilliant!
  • I tried to use it with Techsmiith Camtasia (https://www.techsmith.com/video-editor.html) and Techsmith Snagit (https://www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.html) and both crash Muzzle once recording starts (the Muzzle icon is gone, and the process is vanishing from the activity monitor).
  • I cannot record a video of that happening since i cannot record screen recording software, but it is 100% reproduceable.

My setup: OSX 10.11.6
Camtasia 10.0.6
Snagit4.1.5 (but since it affects both Techmith products I guess its something related to the way they record the screen).

Can I help to debug this issue?

Feature Request: TeamViewer Support

TeamViewer is a support/screen sharing app and it would be great to silence notifications when it is running. I am happy to help with coding this, if this is a open collaboration type project.

Feature request: OBS support

As embarrassing as it is to have a notification come up while sharing a screen with a colleague, imagine how much worse it is if you're streaming to the Internet at large.

Feature Request: Cisco Jabber

Cisco Jabber is a communications app (voice, video, chat) that allows for full screen sharing. It would be nice to include this in the MuzzleApp in the same way Slack and the other screen sharing apps are supported.

BTW, great app! I appreciate you maintaining this project, and I recognize/understand this feature request may not be on anyone's priority list.

Support Skype For Business

Hi There,

Would be great if you could support the Skype for Business Mac app and maybe even the Lync Web App or Skype Web App.

Cheers,

Jesse

Manual Muzzle Mode - Simple Off/On/Auto

I like the idea of Muzzle being in automode, but for those of us that do training videos and use screen capture programs like Screenflow or Camtasia where we need to control what pops up Muzzle is great, but in one section of my Wrike demo I need the iMessage notification to pop up, and it would be nice if I could simply turn off Muzzle as needed during that part of the demo.

Hide menu bar icon

I'm very picky about apps being in the menu bar. 😅 I'd like to have an option to hide the menu bar icon.

Suggestion

  • Add a checkmark to the preferences to hide the menu bar icon.
  • If you open the app again (while it's running), it'll open the preferences.

Thank you for your great work! 👍

Support Chrome screen sharing

Chrome extensions can record and share your screen.
Could Muzzle detect when this is happening and switch on Do Not Disturb?

One such application would be when screen sharing with https://appear.in

Thanks for the great app (and amazing website).

Crashes on 10.11

  1. Downloaded the app (thank you!), placed in Applications and launched.
  2. Icon appeared in taskbar
  3. Joined a hangout in Chrome as the only participant
  4. Clicked screen share button
  5. Task bar icon immediately disappeared and DND was NOT turned on
  6. Shared my screen
  7. Stopped screen sharing
  8. Icon's empty space eventually went away
  9. 100% reproducible

Feature Request: Request To Move To Applications After First Run

So the geek users know that after a download from the website, and extracting the zip file will provide you the app in your Downloads folder, then you move it to the applications folder to run it. But the average user tends to do things like, run Chrome out of the DMG or leave an app in Downloads forever. I happened to move it to Applications after I had run it for the first time, and when doing a check for update, it gave the generic error message about a read only disk and what not.

I've seen a few other apps that after first run, or the first question when launching it if it doesn't detect it's in Applications, will ask one time if you'd like to have it move itself to the Applications folder. I think it then restarts itself if you say yes.

By the by, this is great!

Support for Cisco WebEx

It would be amazing to have support for WebEx Meetings, because that's what I personally use most ;)

Cheers

Support for Hipchat

It would be fantastic to have support for hipchat video calls as that's what we use.

Feature request: I wish there was a snooze button

I love muzzle - however sometimes I want to use muzzle when I'm not screensharing. Would be nice if I could click a button like 'snooze notifications' that would turn muzzle on for x amount of time. Keep up the great work!

Feature request: Support DnD when meeting without sharing

We were just discussion distractions when running meeting, it would be awesome to have Muzzle supported DnD for joining any meeting not just screen sharing.

Potential Interface

  • Menu bar toggle for Muzzle When > Screen Sharing | Participating in a Meeting
  • Preferences drop down: Muzzle When > Screen Sharing | Participating in a Meeting

Request: On off button for muzzling during livestreaming

I love the auto detect idea, but all my screen sharing happens while livstreaming to the internet on YouTube and/or Twitch.tv. Would love the option to turn muzzle on and off for this.

Alternatively if you prefer the auto detect method, the livestreaming software I use is Wirecast.

Thanks!

Muzzle does not work properly on macOS Mojave

On Mojave, when MuzzleApp activates or de-activates Do-Not-Disturb, it doesn't change the DND status but just causes the Notification sidebar to appear on the right. Whatever API muzzle is using to make the change is not properly changing the switch.

Feature request: Stride

Stride has screen sharing and it would be great to silence notifications during screen sharing.
I am happy to help with coding this, if this is a open collaboration type project.

Cisco Webex (New UI/Client) August 2018

Cisco's updated Webex UI/Client isn't detected. This is the lovely UI/UX change that was sprung on non-enterprise accounts back in 1st week of August.

Any chance you can identify that?

Feature Request: Teams Screen Sharing

Microsoft Teams has screen sharing and it would be great to silence notifications during screen sharing.
I am happy to help with coding this, if this is a open collaboration type project.

Allow DND when non-whitelisted monitor is connected

Sometimes I am connecting a second display to attend (but not run) a Web-Ex meeting. As such, muzzle will not turn on. Note: this is not the same as the System Preference for DND and Screen Mirroring — I am using both screens and thus that won't kick in.

If Muzzle App could turn on whenever an external display is connected that would be great — and offer a white-list of known external monitors (your desk at home, your desk at work) — for all others, turn on DND....
